This class will be a combination of lecture and Qigong exercises. The owners of Finger Lakes Acupuncture and Gongfu, Jessie Myrick and Connor Youngerman, will outline the Chinese medicine theory of the Five Phases (Wu Xing), which have been used for thousands of years to bring us into harmony with nature and optimize our health. By understanding how the underlying patterns of the universe relate to our planet, the seasons, and our bodies, we can nourish our internal organs, reduce stress and pain, and learn how to use food as medicine. After the lecture, participants will learn the Wu Xing Qigong exercises, which directly applies the theory of Wu Xing into practice with simple, gentle movements to nourish the joints, tissues, and organs of the body. This lecture topic & Qigong set are a nice introduction to Chinese physical culture and medicine; the concepts and movements are fairly simple, yet profound, and students will go home with the essential understanding of an empowering self-healing practice.
