At Hawk Meadow Farm we are interested in sustainable management of our forests. We leave the best trees in our woods and are constantly culling substandard or crowded trees from our woodlands. In particular we have over 10 acres of managed black locust, which produces a highly durable, rot-resistant wood.
Some of the wood we cut goes to firewood for our buildings and maple syrup operation but we also select portions of the trees that would normally be overlooked for milling to make delightful furniture. We use Black Locust for picnic tables and benches; these are left unfinished for outdoor use and have a rustic look. All of our benches are generally from portions of the tree with graceful curves and live edges so the connection to the living tree is still felt. Bench length is generally 4-5 feet. We invite you to view these at the farm.
